What kind of problem?

When braking and getting to about 5mph, the antilock brakes go on. Had recently put on new front brake lines, and calipers before this rpoblem. Thought there might be air in it so, I bled them and replaced the master cylinder . That gave me a nice full pedal better than when new but didn't correct the antilock brake problem.

It doesn't do it all the time.

Yes on the recall they were not replacing the abs sensors just cleaning them.

If someone could run my vin# then I could see if mine was covered under the recall. Otherwise I need to know how to get at the front sensors to clean them myself.

The recall was for a 2002 which mine is. They were mailed in 2005. I didn't get a recall or it was lost in the mail. Couldn't find on the GM website where you could check your vin for recalls.

Thanks for the info on my truck.

So Do you think the sensors are now bad or just dirty again? Can I do it myself or is it a MUST to go to the garage( dealer).

Hard to say if there bad or dirty again,You don't have to go back to the dealer, although I probably would go back to the same dealer who performed the recall and let them look at it,However....Do NOT expect any repair work to be free this time :D

The problem is called "unintended low speed ABS activation". It is caused by rust on the hub between the ABS sensor "reader" and hub. It is fairly common on GMT 800 trucks. The fix is free, just remove the allen bolt that holds the plastic sensor to the hub and use emery cloth to sand down the pad on the hub that the sensor fits into. A light coating of corrosion is enough to hold the reader a millimeter farther away from the sensor inside the hub and cause the ABS to activate. Put a light coating of grease on the hub before you press the reader back into the hub and you are good to go. I did this on my truck and a friend's truck 3 years ago and they are both still working fine. You DO NOT need expensive new hubs with new ABS sensors.

09 Jimmy is right. I had the same problem on my 2000 Silverado. They are fairly easy to take off and clean. But a word of warning. If you pull the sensor out and see the copper wiring, it is junk. That's what happened to me. They should have a black plastic cap on it. If you do see the wires, make sure you get the plastic cap out of the hole. I only needed one and it was only around $60. at the local dealer.

I'm having the same problem with my '06 Silverado. I called the dealer and they said it doesn't fall within the VIN that is involved....but yet it is happening ???....I don't understand how they can disregard it. They did say that there is a recall to reprogram my computer....first time I heard of this...appointment tomorrow morning

replaced a wheel bearing on my old s10. Ended up ruining the abs sensor. All the copper wire came out of it. Ever parts place I called said that they I had to buy the entire hub just to get the wire. Good old ebay came through for me. I think it was like 10 bucks. Spliced the wires together and used some heat shrink. Good as new.

Dropped my truck off to have the computer updated...service manager said it had something to do with E85 Fuel....anyhow, I asked about the ABS Recall being that my truck is experiencing exactly as the recall states, he said that only involved 1996 to 2000 Silverados....this is the same guy that told me that my rear brakes being soaked in gear oil by a leaking rear axle seal is not a problem...until I got 5 miles down the road and I could no longer see the back of my truck thru the smoke :D
